As a patient, you will find background information on the following topics here.
Your prescription was prescribed by a TCM specialist who knows your individual
current situation. If you are unsure, please contact them, as Complemedis
does not know the specific circumstances that led to the prescription. Complemedis only compiles the prescription
according to the prescriber's instructions
The granules are usually soaked in warm or hot water and drunk in small sips.
You do not need to boil granule mixtures, as valuable substances could be destroyed.
Some people prefer to put the granules dry in their mouth and rinse with warm water. If necessary, cold water can also be used if there is no warm water available.
Not every granule mixture has a pleasant flavour. If you or your child totally dislike the taste, you can try syrup or another trick. As a last resort, you can try a mashed banana or mixed with yoghurt if all else fails. However, this may reduce the effect in some circumstances.
We can also tablet your granule mix for a small extra charge. The person who prescribes your prescription can make a note of this when ordering at your request. We can do the tableting from 100 grams. The tableting order must be available when the order is received. It is not possible to tablet afterwards. Unfortunately, you cannot send the mixture back to us for tableting. Complemedis does not currently offer capsules, but what is not yet possible can still be. We will let you know when the time comes
The dosage instructions from your TCM specialist can be found on the medicine packaging.
The dosage of TCM granules does not have to be correct in the milligram range. If you are unable to adhere to it (work, job, absence...), then make sure that you roughly reach the daily dose. Minimum and maximum doses can be very far apart: Some people are sensitive and feel a good effect from a much lower dose, while others need massively more. You are sure to find the right individual dose for you. Discuss this with the prescribing TCM specialist. This will allow them to adjust the dosage for a future prescription if necessary
For therapies that are intended for a longer period of time (e.g. several weeks), it is more important that the entire amount is taken in approximately the estimated time. It may happen that a dose is forgotten or that you skip a whole day. As a rule, however, this does not diminish the success of the therapy. It simply occurs a little later. If exact timing is necessary, your TCM specialist will tell you. It is important for women who wish to have children, for example, as the TCM remedy is tailored to the different phases of the menstrual cycle. Of course, timing is also important before top sporting performances or, for example, in the situation before exams in the case of test anxiety or stage fright.
As a rule, a daily dose is divided into 2 to 3 portions. There are deviations from this, e.g. several small portions that you take every hour. Others only take the mixture twice a day. The total daily dose should be reached. Your TCM specialist will be happy to give you precise instructions on this.
The weight of the quantity supplied is always correct. However, the concentration in the measuring spoon may vary and individual herbs may have a lower or higher density. As a rule, the total quantity of a prescription is more important for the success of the therapy than the number of days for which it is sufficient. The latter can therefore sometimes vary by a few days.
No, it is perfectly possible for different batches of granules to differ in colour and consistency, e.g. grain size. As these are natural products, such differences are commonplace and have no influence on quality. TCM remedies are not standardised to a single ingredient, as is the case in conventional medicine down to the milligram. It depends on the total extract, which has many useful ingredients.
If patients order a herbal mixture that has already been ordered once and it has or appears to have a different colour, a slightly different taste or a slightly different effect, it may be because a formulation was delivered once that was available in cooked, extracted and granulated form and in another delivery the mixture consisted of individually extracted herbs. As not every herb or finished formula is always in stock, this discrepancy can sometimes occur. Differences in effect can usually be corrected by adjusting the dose upwards or downwards.
Due to our clearly defined operating procedures and multiple safety checks, incorrect deliveries as a result of mix-ups or other errors cannot occur.
The prescribing TCM specialist will usually give you instructions on when to take the granules. The rule of thumb may be Sufficient time before eating, i.e. about 15 or better 30 minutes before eating and 1 or better 2 hours after. Too late in the evening or just before going to bed is generally not recommended.
Granules are a concentrate made from dried herbs that have been boiled with water and consist of small powder-like granules. This ensures that the extract remains stable for a long time and is protected against humidity and clumping, thus reducing quality. For granulation, manufacturers usually require the excipient maize starch, more rarely maltodextrin.
The prescribing TCM specialist will give you instructions on how to cook and dose.
You should report any side effects to the person who issued the prescription. They will know how to deal with them.
Side effects are rare. Side-effect reporting centres such as Swissmedic or the Tox Centre have received practically no reports of serious incidents in connection with TCM remedies. Most side effects are not dangerous. Digestive problems are the most common complaint. Adjusting the dose can help.
What is sometimes perceived as a side effect is often a real effect, for example when it is intended to produce diarrhoea, for example to eliminate toxins.
Some specific side effects are discussed below.
